Ethical Use Policy

Every student has the right to utilize the library and borrow materials. The media specialist and classroom teachers instruct students on how to use materials and equipment as part of their educational program. As a librarian I protect students' first amendment rights as well as their privacy. This usually includes providing access to books and disallowing censorship. In addition, I ensure that students' privacy is protected and that they understand how to protect themselves. Along with the Technology staff, I promote citing sources and offer lessons on Copyright, both how to respect it and how students can obtain licenses for their own work.

Please read more about HCPSS' policy on using media and services here.

Please visit the Howard County Code of Conduct for more information on consequences for plagiarism.
